What VPN does
A VPN creates a protected connection between your device and a service server. This changes the traffic route and requires trust in the service provider. As EFF explains in its VPN guide, the service does not make a user completely anonymous or replace other protective measures.
Do not choose a VPN based on a claim that tracking is impossible. For everyday use, clear terms, a compatible application and control over your own subscription are more useful.
Why HTTPS still matters
HTTPS protects the browser's connection to a website. VPN does not replace HTTPS, repair a fraudulent website or make it safe to give a password to a stranger. EFF also notes that widespread HTTPS has changed how public-network risks should be assessed.
Use your bookmarked address to sign in to your account. If the browser reports a certificate error, do not bypass it just to log in. Close the page and check the address manually.
Prepare before your trip
Before joining an unfamiliar network, install a compatible client, import your subscription and check that it works. In your Envy VPN account, review the expiry date, traffic usage and device allowance. Access that expires while travelling will not return just by restarting the client.
Bookmark your account address and support contact. If you need both a phone and a laptop, choose a suitable device allowance in advance. Avoid leaving setup until the last moment when only an unstable network is available.
Connect to a new network
Confirm the Wi-Fi name with its owner. If the network requires a connection page, follow its usual terms and then start your connection app. Do not enter your Envy VPN sign-in codes on a Wi-Fi page or share login codes with someone offering internet help.
After enabling VPN, test a normal website and the service you need. If VPN does not work, compare the result without it or on another available network. Continue with our troubleshooting guide.
What you still need to do
Check website addresses, application updates and account access. Your private subscription link also needs protection: do not leave it on someone else's device or post it in an error screenshot. If it was exposed, reset the link and update your own connections.
Choose an Envy VPN plan for your devices and travel duration. All four options and their prices are on the plans section; your account shows the settings of your active subscription.
Your VPN starts with a suitable plan.
